Happy New Year!

Plus, Bilt’s underwhelming Rent Day

New Year’s Day is right around the corner, and we hope you’ve been having a happy holiday season! We’re keeping it simple this week, so we hope you enjoy this express edition!

Thursday is not just the new year, it’s also a new month, and that means Bilt Rent Day. Unfortunately, there’s no headline-grabbing offer this time—the main offer is targeted bonuses of 30-40% when redeeming points on Rent or at Amazon. Bilt points are typically worth about 0.55¢ each toward rent or 0.7¢ at Amazon, so even with a bonus the value is limited, considering they can be redeemed for 1.25¢ each toward travel in the Bilt travel portal or transferred to high-value partners like Hyatt or Atmos.

As usual on the first of the month, Bilt is also offering:

  • Double points (up to 1,000 bonus points) on non-rent Bilt Mastercard spending

  • A chance to win free rent via the in-app Rent Free game show

  • Free coffee at Bilt HQ

  • Rotating special events (dining, comedy, fitness, and more)

I’ll be using my Bilt card to get 6x points on our New Year’s dinner out. 🍽️

Nothing new this week—just Season’s Greetings. 🎄

Quick Points of the Week ⚡

Special offers ✨

Get a $15 credit for linking Atmos and Lyft. Atmos is my favorite of Lyft’s rewards partners, and now you can get a $15 Lyft credit (that expires on January 31st) for linking your loyalty accounts for the first time, with no spending or ride requirement. (AwardWallet)

Devaluations 📉

JAL/JetBlue partnership ending. If you want to fly to Japan with JetBlue points (transfer 1:1 from Chase and Citi), the window to do so is closing. (Upgraded Points)

Last chance ⏳

Get $50 when joining Rakuten. This best-ever deal ends on December 31st (the typical offer is $30, but $40 is fairly common). Cash back (or points) after spending $50 via Rakuten. You can use our referral link and we’ll get cash back too.

Defeat jet lag. I haven’t tried this advice from View From the Wing, but it looks promising and I plan to give it a shot next time.

Sit next to an empty seat. One Mile at a Time has some tips to increase your odds of extra elbow room.

Sign-up bonus of the Week 🎯

Two weeks ago I highlighted a solid $300 cash-back bonus on the Chase Freedom Unlimited. On top of that, Rakuten is now offering up to $65 in cash back for signing up via their link. (h/t Frequent Miler) $365 is a very elevated bonus for a solid no-fee card, so I have to bump this up to at least 🔥🔥.

Other great current bonuses

100k points on the Capital One Venture X (our take: 🔥🔥🔥🔥)

100k points on the Citi Strata Elite (our take: 🔥🔥🔥)

125k (175k?) points on the Chase Sapphire Reserve (our take: 🔥🔥🔥)

175k points on the Hilton Aspire (our take: 🔥🔥)

75k points on the Chase Sapphire Preferred (our take: 🔥)

$250 gift card on the Amazon Prime Visa (our take: 🔥)

Up to 100/175k on the Amex Gold/Platinum (our take)

Enjoy the weekend! 🦥
