Here Again: 100k on the Atmos Summit
And why I love the Summit’s status benefits

My favorite credit card has another elevated welcome offer: the Atmos Summit is back with 100,000 points and a companion discount worth up to 25,000 points off a second award ticket. This bonus isn’t that rare, but it matches the best public points offer we’ve seen on a card that comes in at #2 in my rankings. 🔥🔥🔥
Getting the card before year-end puts your first anniversary in 2027, when renewing gets you 10,000 status points—half the 20,000 needed for Alaska’s Atmos Silver status next year. And Alaska lets you choose how you earn: you can earn 1 status point for each mile flown, even on award tickets. For me, one round-trip Atmos award flight from San Francisco to Japan can cover the other half.
That relatively easy path to status is one of my favorite things about the card—and the value extends well beyond Alaska. Atmos status comes with Oneworld perks on airlines like American and Japan Airlines, and it can also open the door to status matches elsewhere.
I used my Alaska status and some good timing to get United status, for example. And right now, SAS is offering a status match that can last nearly two years. It’s a paid match, but it starts at just €99, with no flight requirement. And that status includes SkyTeam Elite or Elite Plus benefits, depending on the matched tier—and that could get you useful perks when flying Delta or other partner airlines.
I probably won’t be taking advantage of that offer (though it would have come in very handy on a recent Air France flight), but it’s nice to have the option, and I love how the Summit helps open that door.
This week on the blog 📝
Is it worth transferring points when you see a big bonus to an airline loyalty program you don’t use regularly? I like to keep things simple, so I generally avoid it, but even I will take advantage of a bonus for a speculative transfer every once in a while.
Quick Points of the Week ⚡
More value 📈
Bilt adds JetBlue transfer partnership. The best points just keep getting better, adding a 1:1 transfer partnership with JetBlue, which isn’t my go-to program but can offer some solid deals on domestic and international award travel. (MilesTalk)
Devaluations 📉
Amex Platinum hotel credit. It’s official: one-night Fine Hotels + Resorts stays will no longer qualify for Amex’s semi-annual hotel credit. It’s also now a “lodging” credit, and can be used toward (expensive) Airbnb Luxe stays. Overall it’s another hit for value travelers, not that the old version offered much easy value. (The Points Guy)
Notable Transfer Bonus ⬆️
Capital One → Virgin (30%). I don’t find Virgin Points exciting, but they are useful enough in spots (like my recent Portugal trip) that I will sometimes engage in a little transfer bonus speculation, especially from Capital One, which otherwise lacks a standout transfer partner, in my opinion.
Mark your calendar 📅
Bilt Rent Day is next Sunday. The details are yet to be announced, but I’m hoping for a big transfer bonus (to JetBlue?).
Interesting 🤔
Southwest’s ride on the bandwagon. Gary Leff has a fascinating inside look on how Southwest is playing catch-up on all the big industry trends like becoming a flying credit card company and adding “premium” features to drive more consumer spending. (View From the Wing)

If the Summit is not your style, the $95-fee Atmos Ascent is now offering up to 80,000 points + a $99 companion fare. The bonus is two-tiered based on your spending in the first 90 days: 60,000 points after spending $3,000, and 20,000 more after reaching $5,000 in total spending. The companion fare is valid on North America flights, including Hawaii, although Alaska’s somewhat limited route network, especially beyond the West Coast, means that the value of that part of the bonus could vary widely from person to person.
I’m not a huge fan of the Ascent generally. I think it makes sense for frequent Alaska flyers who can benefit from the airline perks (like a free checked bag and priority boarding) but don’t fly with a companion often enough to justify getting a Summit card. But—and I say this as a major Alaska Atmos enthusiast—I don’t see much long-term value in this card given the lack of non-Alaska benefits and unremarkable earning rates on purchases.
But this is the best public offer on this card since it was rebranded over a year ago and 80,000 points go a long way with Global Getaways. 🔥

Stay connected abroad. The first thing we do when landing abroad is getting connected to the internet because we’re hopeless without Google Maps and Translate. Since we switched to T-Mobile, this has been pretty straightforward—we just turn on the phone and it connects to the local network, with up to 5GB of high-speed data included. But my dad has a different network. Thankfully, he had an unlocked phone, so we were able to get him set up quickly with an eSIM. I’ve had good luck with Airalo, and he saved a few Euros with my referral link. If you want to check it out on future travels, use code MICHAE1215 for 3€ off your first purchase.
Enjoy the weekend! 🦥
