Is Now a Good Time to Consider a Premium Credit Card?

So many incredible offers... and Bilt 2.0 is coming

It’s almost peak shopping season, and deals abound on premium credit cards. Last week, Capital One launched its best offer in years on its most premium card, the Capital One Venture X: 100,000 Venture miles after spending $10,000 in the first six months. This is already arguably the best card on the market, and there hasn’t been an offer this good since 2021—once in a blue moon, literally

But right now the entire premium card space is on fire. Every major issuer has a top-tier offer live, and Bilt is teasing a new premium card coming in February. So it’s worth taking a moment to step back and consider all your options. Here’s how I see the landscape:

  • Venture X: Best lazy value—simple credits, easy redemptions

  • Amex Platinum: Best for luxury perks—the most lounges, Clear+, and hotel elite status

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve: Best for big spenders—huge rewards after spending $75,000

  • Citi Strata Elite: Best balance of earning and rewards value, with relatively simple credits

  • Bilt Premium: TBD—Huge potential, but could underwhelm

For a deeper dive on these cards and their current bonuses, you can read the full breakdown here. And if the premium cards aren’t for you, you can check out our list of other great cards, including no-fee and lower-fee options here.

This week on the blog 📝

I reviewed Roame, a search engine that helps you find award flights across multiple frequent flyer programs. It’s a lazy way to find a good redemption without mastering a dozen loyalty programs, and they are currently offering LazyPoints readers 40% off their first payment

I also updated our Lyft rewards partners post after Lyft added the ability to earn United miles on rides.

Quick Points of the Week ⚡

Thanksgiving 🦃

Points for giving. If you have a Chase card, you may be able to redeem points for 1.25 or 1.5¢ each for donations to certain charities. Even if your cards don’t have any charity-specific bonuses, charitable giving could help you earn a welcome offer on a new card. You can also donate points and miles; that’s usually not a great deal, but may be useful if you have points that would otherwise expire.

Warning ⚠️

Bilt cards will become Autograph cards without action. FrequentMiler reports that Bilt cardholders will be given an Autograph card unless they take proactive action to decline it. So if you don’t want an Autograph card, make sure you reach out to Wells Fargo before February 6, 2026.

Extra points 🪙

Earn 250 Rove miles for taking a survey. Free points to help make this innovative new program even better. (Danny the Deal Guru)

More value 📈

Bonus points if you fly Virgin in five different years. With High Five, Virgin will award you 12,000 bonus points once you’ve taken a flight with the airline in five different calendar years—backdated to 2021. One-ways to London with points tend to be very affordable on Virgin, so if you can figure out a way home, this could be a nice little boost to your points strategy. (Daily Drop)

Devaluations 📉

United giveth, United taketh away. United got us excited recently by cutting prices on partner award flights, only to now limit those deals to co-branded cardholders. If that wasn’t enough, domestic redemptions are getting more expensive, too. (Thrifty Traveler, Frequent Miler)

Travel tip 💡

Spend Thanksgiving abroad. We’ve done this a few times to save money, avoid the crowds, and burn fewer vacation days. TPG makes the case
